Shaders, taken apart
I'm DocMe. I make shaders and tools for VRChat: eyes, spells, glass, smoke and small tricks. This blog explains the math they are built on.
About me
I started making shaders in 2018. I have been interested in tech and math since I was little. I went to university in Germany and did my degree in Technical Computer Science and Cognitive Systems.
Today I work full time, and experimenting with shaders is my hobby. This blog is how I share what I learn.
Who it is for
Anyone who wants to learn math and shaders. You do not need much math to start: each article starts from zero and links back to the parts it builds on. Add me on Discord: docme.
Where it comes from
Everything that runs on this blog is based on Unity projects I made for VRChat. The demos are small versions of those shaders, so the math shows on its own. This blog is not sponsored by anyone.
If you find an issue, or anything else, please tell me.
How the demos work
Each demo is a small shader that runs on your graphics card through WebGL 2. Open Show code under a demo to read the exact code that draws it, or edit to change it and see the result right away. The library has the shared pieces.
Demos only run while you can see them, and the ones that do not move only redraw when you change something. If your device prefers reduced motion, animations start paused.
